About me

I am fortunate to have a successful 'portfolio career', as both an experienced writer, researcher, consultant and editor in the prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and as a professional soprano.

Since 2017, I have been a freelance consultant and writer on NCD prevention. I have worked in this field since 2005 - until the end of 2016 as assistant director of C3 Collaborating for Health, and since then as an independent consultant. Clients in 2024/5 include the World Health Organization, the FCTC Secretariat, the NCD Alliance, the Danish Red Cross and the International Federation of the Red Cross and the British Heart Foundation. I would welcome hearing from you about working together.

Since 2017 I have been a trustee (with responsibility for health programmes) at the Sussex Cricket Foundation, and in 2023 I volunteered with Cricket Without Boundaries for a fortnight, bringing cricket into schools in Rwanda.

I have degrees in philosophy, politics and economics (BA, Oxford University) and human rights (MSc, London School of Economics).

  • You can also read on LinkedIn about my
extensive experience and my CV is available on request.

I have been a professional singer since leaving university, and I sing with a wide variety of groups (see Singing). I am also a choral fixer, with an extensive list of singers on whom I can call for engagements including weddings and recording.

  • If you would like to book me as a choir member or soloist,
or would like me to organise a soloist/choir for an event,
    please contact me.

Finally, I am a reluctant runner and a keen cyclist. I have cycled the length (from Land's End to John O'Groats) and breadth (Lowestoft to St Davids) of the UK, as well as six Caminos (ancient pilgrimage routes) across Spain to Santiago de Compostela (see lycra-clad photo), blogging as I go. If you are interested in this, check out my biking blog here.
