Consultancy

Interests

Since 2005, I have worked in the prevention of non-communicable disease (NCD) - in a nutshell, making it easier to be healthy: physical activity, better diet, and quitting smoking - since 2017 as a freelance consultant. Nothing makes me happier than getting my teeth into a good writing project, or using my extensive experience in this area to provide strategy advice.

I am passionate about making it easier to be healthy - which, as we all know, is no simple task. I have particular interests in the impact of the environment (the links between unhealthy lifestyles and climate change), on cities and health, and on human rights (in which I previously worked as a consultant at Maplecroft and for the International Business Leaders Forum, and in which I have a Masters from the LSE).

Skills
  • Research/writing

  • Making connections across traditional 'silos' in health (not least including Covid-19)  – striving for a ‘whole-of-government, whole-of-society’ approach to NCD prevention, as advocated by the UN and WHO

  • Network building and partnership working

  • Communications, including social media – I am personally very active on Twitter and curate the website and Twitter account of the UK Working Group on NCDs

  • Copy-editing – I began my career as a copy-editor for academic publishers including Cambridge University Press

  • Presenting at events (national and international)

  • Strategy advice

  • Project managing

  • Events management – even when, as happened in 2010, a volcano strands most of the organising team half way around the world…
